Thornton Community Centre

The community centre has two large halls and a small meeting room.

The main hall is ideal for all manner of events from private parties to concerts and is home to the Markfield and Thornton theatre group; the stage making it an ideal venue for local amateur dramatic productions and concerts. The hall has recently had a ‘makeover’ on the wooden flooring which has also been marked out as a badminton court.

The slightly smaller hall is linked to the main hall, but also has a separate entrance and has access to a small kitchen and toilet.

This is the sports hall. The floor is marked out for badminton. There are basketball hoops and four table tennis tables and all the equipment available including nets/posts/raquets, shuttlecocks, table tennis bats and balls available for use.

The sports club meets on a Monday night at 7pm – all ages and abilities are welcome.

Outside the hall there is a large grassed area leading to the children’s playground and the footpath to the reservoir.

In May 2017 a super new kitchen was fitted to the hall; the kitchen, entrance hall was painted and the main hall floor re varnished. The Trustees of the centre are committed to keeping the hall in the best possible state of repair.

There is off street parking for about 20 cars.

The Community Centre is also home to the annual Thornton Carnival usually held on the 1st Saturday of July; a day for all the family to enjoy.

Many groups like the Play school, the Brownies, local artist Ingrid Hill’s art class and Yoga class use the hall throughout the weekdays.

More community events are being planned at the centre with quiz nights, folk concerts and of course the annual pantomime and plays.

The hall hire costs are extremely reasonable – see Contact page for contact details.
