St Peter’s Church

St Peter’s church is off the main road on Church Lane, Thornton. The church and graveyard occupy an enviable position on the hillside overlooking the reservoir.

Although there may have been an earlier church on this site, parts of the existing church; the aisle and nave, date from the 13th Century.  The perpendicular style tower dates from the 15th Century. As you enter the porch you will see the impressive 6′ x 9′ wooden door, dating from the 14th Century; it is believed the door came from the now derelict Ulverscroft Priory.
